There are many interesting creatures in the oceans. Some of them are real and some of them are stuff of lore. Among those that come from tales told over many a pint of ale are Davy Jones Locker, Neptune, and the mermaid. Of those that fill a tale over a pint of ale are Neptune, Davy Jone's locker and of course mermaids.

A half fish, half human creature of the ocean is a mermaid.  With her beauty, she lures unsuspecting victims under the sea.  Apparently she is a mixture of the earth and ocean. The Greeks saw her a representing the mystery of the ocean.  Ever wondered what befell the sailor after they fell overboard?

Of course, this is more Greek mythology than anything else is, but there are people who perform as mermaids. They may have tails, but they are still beautiful women.

Want to get a job as a mermaid?

One of the main requirements is your love of water.  Instead of feet and fins you have to swim with a tail, something very different.  First off you work as a model to learn about how to present yourself.  Most of your time wonÕt be spent swimming on the ocean. Much of your time will be entertaining others, so you want to be able to present yourself in such a way that you bring a mystic to your shape and performance.   A good understanding of camera angles and how a camera works is vital.

Find out more about the ocean. There are people who spend a lot of time in the water, talk to divers and others.  Find out how they see the oceans.  Make a portfolio by asking some underwater photographers to take some shots.  In order to impress employers you will need a good portfolio.

Perform at kids parties to get the skill of performing down in such a way that it becomes natural to you.  The kids will allow you to practice the final details of being a mermaid without too much criticism.

 Try making your own tail.

Hannah Frasier is a professional model turned mermaid.  It is better to make a tail for your body than copy another's one, Hannah says. You want it to feel natural.   Also in order to glide through the water with more power, you will need a certain shape.  You should be creative and make it your own, says Hannah.

By following these steps, one day it may be you in that picture swimming with the whale or getting applause from a thrilled audience at a famous water park somewhere in the world.
